AF598: Kota Knife

A fine and large Kota "Birds head" knife. These are often classified as throwing knives, but I do not believe they were actually thrown They were used as a weapon and as an important status symbol. This one is quite large with a longer straighter handle that is in-between the smaller ones and the axe style bird head knives. The forging is very well done with raised areas and incised decorations. The original brass handle wrap is in find condition.

Previously in a French collection.

15" Tall by 13 1/4" Wide. Early 20th century, possibly older, Gabon, Africa.    ....$2800.00
