INDO617: Dayak Aso

INDO617: Dayak Aso

A powerful and large Aso figure with a large head that has original shell eyes,The Aso is the main Dayak deity of the underworld. This is one end cut off the ritual bone box, or "coffin" that was ritually used to store the ancestor bones in the caves for a certain amount of time. The good patina shows both cave patina and patina from handling. A wonderful and strong piece with some small losses the the bottom legs of the Aso figure.

Previously in the collection of Serge Schoffel, and before that Francois Coppens, Brussels.
