AF207: Ibo Ikenga Figure

Igbo / Ibo Ikenga shrine figure used in the mens society. This well carved figure has natural pigment colors and a good patina from age and use. The image of a man holding a sword in one hand and a trophy head in the other hand while sitting on a stool is a common theme for Ikenga figures. As is the spiraling horns on the top of the head, which are interesting in this example as they make a complete circle. The stool is an image of authority or prestige, and the sword, trophy head and horns are symbols of power, vitality, and assertiveness.

24" Tall. Early 20th century.    ....$3500.00
