AF435: Ganda Shield

This beautiful wood and rattan shield is from the Ganda peoples of Uganda. The base form is made of wood with two projections out the front, which is unusual as one is typical. Though they are made with one, two or four projections. The wood is covered with rattan and rattan twine in an intricate pattern that covers both sides. The handle is also made of woven rattan, and the edge is covered with animal hide. the overall condition is good with some minor loss to the rattan in small areas from age and use.
