AF460: Ethiopian Shield

War shield from the Arrusi people of Ethiopia. A fine round example with high relief bump pattern. The buffalo hide is formed into a purposeful pattern that may distinguish the status of the owner. This shield has a rolled edged and a good patina from age and use. One of the ties for the handle has been replaced at a later date.
