PH585: Philippine Carabao Bowl

A beautiful small Northern Philippine bowl with carabao heads as legs. The patina and surface and bottom erosion is dry with remnants of white pigment and looks to me to have the classic "Cave" patina. This was most likely an offering bowl that was put into one of the burial caves for ritual offerings. The carabao heads are wonderfully carved, though one of the three is partially eroded away.

Field collected by Bill Galvin.

5 3/4" Diameter by 2" Tall. 19th or early 20th century, Luzon, The Philippines.    ....$950.00
