OC478: Fijian Ula Club

A fine 19th century Fijian Ula throwing club with the classical round head. This projectile weapon was made from the natural burl root ball of a young tree as the head. The handle has intricate zig-zag patterns carved into the surface, and the entire club has a good dark patina from age and use. The very bottom edge is pierced for a small hanging loop.     

Deaccessioned from "The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco" aka "The DeYoung Museum" in 2013.
