AS533: Paiwan Sword

A fine 19th century Paiwan sword. The handle has the classic archaic standing figure on each side. The front of the scabbard is adorned with 11 human heads cutout in the brass plus 4 more heads on the box. The Piawan were know to be headhunters in the 19th century. The scabbard back has a large snake, one of the important elements seen in much of Paiwan art. There are small remnants of the traditional red pigment paint, and the overall patina is good and dark from age and use. Mounted on a custom metal stand.
