A finely carved double ended Chokwe drum. The body of the drum is carved from a single piece of wood and has carved decorations on the surface. One of the side handles is missing, but looks to have been gone a long time ago. The overall patina is very good from age and use. The two hide heads are old and original, and held on with wooden pegs. Previously in the collection of the Denver Art Museum who acquired this piece in 1986 from the collection of John and Mary Carlen, Texas.
