INDO806: Dayak Hudoq Mask

A fine and dynamic Dayak Hudoq mask. This mythical spirit is made of different animals and deities including the hornbill bird and the Aso. The Hudoq was an important figure in the rituals and ceremonies around agriculture and rice cultivation. The intricately carved wood has both natural pigments and some commercial red paint. The overall patina is good from age and use.
