OC479: Boiken Fragment Figure

A striking Yangoru Boiken fragment figure with original natural pigment paint. At one time the arms and legs of this figure were longer, with the arms going up, and the legs going down. The interior of this very old wood piece is greatly hollowed out by wood eating bugs that are no longer present. The surface was left untouched because of the pigment colors and patina. There is some small restoration and stabilizing, as well as the very tip of the nose being restored. This piece comes on a custom metal base.

Field collected by Bruce Lawes in the 1970s.

17" Tall by 5" Wide. late 19th or early 20th century, New Guinea.    ....$1800.00
